The democratic party is not much more than a coalition of special interest groups, so it is of little surprise that now that the dems have some power back in Washington, they are all wanting to claim responsibility for last weeks election. Not the least of which is the Brady Bunch.
At the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the leading gun-control advocacy group, President Paul Helmke has high hopes for the assault weapons ban — and he can list races where candidates backed by his group defeated those supported by the National Rifle Assn. ... "Guns are a tricky issue," Helmke said. "But the elections show there's nothing to be afraid of."

This news comes less than a week after Menendez won his election running in part on the platform, "I'm not under federal investigation."
Authorities have stepped up an investigation of U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez’s relationship with a federally funded non-profit organization just days after his hard-fought election victory, according to a senior government official. The official said FBI agents served subpoenas on Thursday and Friday seeking information related to the North Hudson Community Action Corp., which paid more than $300,000 over nine years to rent a Union City building from then U.S. Rep. Menendez. The subpoenas are being served on “close associates” of Menendez, as well as people affiliated with North Hudson and other groups linked to the senator, the official said.

Here is a video of a patrol officer who was attacked by a prizefighter during a traffic stop. Just remember kids, if this was any one of us civilians, we should call 911 rather than react with deadly force.
After the officer regained his weapon, he easily had enough time to rack the slide and clear the non-firing round rather than using it as a club. I know it is hard to predict how you will react under extreme circumstances so that is why we must train and develop the muscle memory for such actions to become automatic.
National Review's Edward Whelan thinks Bush will still be able to successfully nominate excellent judges to the Supreme Court. I'm not so optimistic. However, the minority card is a powerful lever. If he gets the chance to nominate one more SCOTUS judge, he should put forward the judge I've been waiting for him to nominate all along since Chief Justice Rhenquist passed--Janice Rogers Brown.
As for John Bolton, it seems assured that Bolton will not confirmed by the Senate. I wonder...can President Bush continue to give him recess appointments through the end of his term? I don't know any reason why not. Not only are the democrats opposed to the guy, the UN is as well. Lincoln Chaffee continues to be a major stumbling block to his nomination in the current congressional term. That right there is the best reason I've heard yet for giving the guy the job for life. He represents US interests first and foremost and has the ability to be a reformer to a deeply corrupted organization. (Via Instapundit)
[UPDATE] Another reason we need John Bolton at the UN. The are still seeking centralized control of the Internet. (Via GunLawNews). Oh, and they want your guns too.
