A federal judge has allowed the NRA's lawsuit against NOLA Mayor Ray Nagin and Chief of Police Warren Riley to go forward. The best part of the decision is the language the judge used:
The city asked the judge to dismiss the suit for lack of jurisdiction, saying "the states, and by extension their political subdivisions, are free to proscribe the possession of firearms."The court rejected the motion, ruling the city did nothing to back up "the brazen assertion" that the second amendment did not apply.
The city asked the judge to dismiss the suit for lack of jurisdiction, saying "the states, and by extension their political subdivisions, are free to proscribe the possession of firearms."
I like this judge already.
I have long observed that with strict anti-gun and anti-self defense laws in the UK, the criminals are in charge and know it.
Case in point:
A 64 year old 5'1" grandmother was confronted by a gang of thugs and taunted. After being dared to, she hit the one in the gut who then threw her to the ground and broke her arm. She was then arrested for assaulting a child.
The NRA endorsed a NRA F rated Republican candidate for the governor's race in Florida before any Democrats had declared. Now an A+ rated Democrat is in the race. Way to go NRA. This is not the way to bring moderate democrats into our movement. The NRA really needs to learn to separate its single-issue focus from partisan politics. Especially during an election year.

The Chicago Tribune has a remarkably neutral article about women taking up shooting for self-defense and sport. They do however, open with this statement:
When 18-year-old Sara Garbarz walks into a shooting range, she often gets mistaken for a spectator. When she begins to load her 12-gauge shotgun, she is sometimes taunted by men who don't expect to see a woman with a firearm.
