Representative Carolyn McCarthy has introduced a reauthorization of a greatly expanded 'assault weapons' ban H.R. 1022. Uncle has summarized the expansions made by her version of the bill.
Time to start writing your representatives on this. Be sure to not only ask them to reject this bill but to reject ANY AWB reauthorization.
Dave Codrea has heard the final word back from the FAA that they are withdrawing their previous language in some administrative documentation declaring the Second Amendment to be a collective right.
I'd still like to know what vetting of the previous language did receive from the Executive Office of the President.
Remember in the weeks and months after 9/11 how controversial the idea of allowing pilots to be armed in the cockpits of commercial aircraft? Some progress is being made as the US is now asking foreign nations to allow pilots to carry side arms on international flights. The bad news is that that the government continues to not treat the program seriously to maximize its potential benefits. Congress has cut the armed pilot's program twice recently and the TSA last year received a grade of 'D' for it's armed pilots program from the Coalition of Airline Pilots Associations for "poor operational policies."
Even so, it's good to see that Homeland Security and the State Department are taking the issue seriously and recognizes the value of arming pilots to defend against would-be hijackers.
Barely six weeks after the defeat of the Jersey City gun rationing law, a similar measure is being pushed statewide according to ssvette.
The JC law was shot down because it violated state equal protection statutes as well as state firearms preemption. Neither of these are an impediment to passing a gun rationing law statewide. This isn't a complete surprise as the gun banners announced their intention to try this statewide when the JC measure was shot down in court.
