The Fix Is In PDF Print E-mail

Remember that sweet-heart 35% pay raise Corzine negotiated with the state employees union in a year they shut down government becaues of multi-billion dollar spending deficits?

And before that, remember the $470,000 "loan" that was actually a gift to his ex-girlfriend Carla Katz, president of the largest NJ state employees union?

Well, turns out, he was into her for more than $6 million according to the NY Times.   Is he just a wealthy sugar daddy like the Times implies?  Sugary daddies usually don't require teams of lawyers to negotiate their largesse.  So the question is, what does Katz have on Corzine?

The couple was in the midst of breaking up, one former confidante and colleague said, and Ms. Katz threatened to stage a news conference designed to embarrass Mr. Corzine, but soon calmed down.

Yeah, $6 million usually has a soothing effect.

Gun Owners and the 2008 Primaries PDF Print E-mail

Gallup has run a poll on gun owners to see who we are favoring in each parties primary race:

Gun owners are a powerful force in American politics, and their influence is evident in both the legislative and electoral processes. In general, more gun owners identify as Republicans or lean toward the Republican Party (53%) than identify as Democrats or lean toward the Democratic Party (39%), but there are enough gun owners in each party to make them a force in either party's primaries and caucuses. An analysis of recent Gallup polling suggests that gun owners could be a considerable factor in the Republican nomination process, but less so in the Democratic process. Although Rudy Giuliani is the front-runner for the GOP nomination, Republican gun owners are less likely than non-owners to support him. On the Democratic side, both gun owners and non-owners rate Hillary Clinton as their top choice for the party's presidential nomination by similar margins over the rest of the Democratic contenders.

If you look at the data, Ron Paul isn't even registering at a single percentage point, even among Republican gun owners.  Fred Thompson whose shaping up to be a new favorite is coming in third after Guliani and McCain, even among gun owners.  In the Democratic primary, the only significantly pro-gun candidate is Bill Richardson and he's way down in fifth place, even amongst gun owners.

Be sure to rate the poll as "extremely interesting" at the bottom of the page.  Hopefully gallup will focus more on gun owners.

These kids have my deep respect:

Two home-schooled teenagers in this northern Idaho town say they are carrying loaded guns to the library, grocery store and other public areas for self-defense, as a crime deterrent, and to educate others about their rights.

Zach Doty, 18, carries a loaded Glock handgun on his hip. His 15-year-old brother, Steven, carries a .22-caliber rifle in a sling on his back.

Police have been called on several occasions to question the teens but have not found the teens to be in violation of the law.

If they tried this in NJ, there'd be a shoot-on-sight order in force against them.  These kids are well schooled in the principles of history and liberty:
