Ace of Spades has a powerful essay which goes a long way in explaining why leftists are so emotionally involved in the issues that they are promoting and why they hate blogger Jeff Goldstein with the intensity and fury of a thousand burning suns. If you enjoy and/or agree with his essay, I highly recommend Thomas Sowell's book, The Vision of the Annointed: Self Congratulation As A Basis For Social Policy. Sowell's thesis is nearly identical to Ace's but he goes into much more detail and covers a handful of case studies.
