The Jersey City Council has successfully passed one of the gun restrictions they have been trying to ram through this month. They have passed a 1 a month purchase restriction on handgun purchases. Ordinance # 06-082 violates NJ state preemption that doesn't allow any local governments to pass their own gun laws. One a month purchase has become a new rallying cry of the gun grabbers as the popularity of their holy war on "assault weapons" has waned to nothing.
The ordinance originally introduced would have limited handgun purchases to one every six months. Sensible gun laws indeed. It should be noted that Caso's Guns-O-Rama is the one and only licensed gun dealer in Jersey City and not one single crime gun has ever been traced back to his store, regardless of how it was obtained. Even City Council President Mariano Vega, Jr. admitted that the gun control, “is feel-good legislation that will probably not reduce crime, but we have to start somewhere, so I am voting yes.” Only one councilman had the stones to vote no against the ordinance. Please contact Councilman Mike Sottolano's office and offer your thanks to him. If you have the time, you can also contact the 8 other councilmen who voted in favor of the measure to express your displeasure. |
