One of the oldest known historical artifacts of the first Europeans to come to North America has been found in a well in Jamestown, Virginia. It is a brass flintlock pistol though to be of Scottish origin that has been perfectly preserved. They say the brass shines like gold. I happen to be spending the next week in the Jamestown area but it will be some time before this rare piece is on display. The experts say this was most likely a civilian owned weapon. It is like looking back through history and seeing the birth of the American tradition of civilian firearm ownership and the Second Amendment. Take that Bellesiles.
