DUmmie Funnies blog is a chronicling of wacky and outrageous behavior, ideas, rants, and ideologies observed at the Democratic Underground web forum.  Their gun forum tends to be quite interesting as you can witness pro-gun and anti-gun ideologies colliding like matter and anti-matter. 

Dummie Funnies recently found a gem of a thread where some of the members are talking about buying "assault weapons" to defend themselves from fundamentalist Christians (while disregarding the very real threat of head chopping members of other religions) and the "republican army", whatever that is. 

Suddenly, they are interested in survivalism and references are being made to the movie "Red Dawn".  They even go as far as all-cap cries of "Wolverines" in the forum.  In other words, they have become a parody of what they hate.  I can just imagine what these people would have been saying about survivalists, gun enthusiasts, and militiamen during the Clinton years.

Even though their turnaround is admittedly triggered by fear and paranoia rather than based on principled appreciation for liberty, I am glad to see some of these people come around to seeing the purpose, necessity, and wisdom in the Second Amendment.

Unfortunately most of the thread isn't about enlightenment.  Take this exchange for example:

User1:  Shoot their kneecaps off??  You wimp. -- aim between the eyes.

User 2:  That's way to quick.  You want them to suffer and be incapicitated, just to make an example.

Spoken like a true anti-war pacifist.  The more I read the ravings at DU, the more convinced I am that they are not opposed to guns, they are just opposed to conservatives owning guns.
