An NJ state superior court judge has ordered Newark to scrap its four-year gun offender program noting its ineffectiveness.  Specifically, State Superior Court Assignment Judge Patricia Costello stated there was no evidence the program did anything to curb crime.  It merely raised bail on gun offenders while the revolving door kept spinning on repeat offenders.

Judge Costello has come to realize what self-defense rights activists have known for years--feel good gun control does nothing to reduce crime and violence.  The government's own statistics support this conclusion.

If New Jersey and Newark politicians are honestly interested in reducing crime and increasing the safety of our communities, they need to pass laws with proven track records. Laws with the strength of statistics behind them that prove they remove criminals from  the street and reduce the rate of crime. Two such proven measures that need to be passed in New Jersey are:

  1. A three strikes law that removes violent offenders from the streets and our communities rather than endlessly recycling back among the ranks of civilized persons without even pretending to rehabilitate them.  Enough is enough.
  2. Shall carry and stand your ground laws that will enable law abiding New Jersey citizens to defend themselves and their families.  Every state that has ever enacted sensible self-defense rights has enjoyed a non-trivial reduction in violent crime.  Don't forget that the foreboding warnings about the streets running red with blood threatened by gun controllers’ every time self-defense rights increase incrementally has ever come to pass.  Not once.  Ever.

Or they can continue to mug for the camera flanked by gun grabbers and pass meaningless feel-good gun control that does nothing to make any of us safer.

The NJCSD congratulates Judge Costello for her epiphany and hopes her flash of rational thinking is contagious among the New Jersey judiciary.
