I just stumbled across this on Digg. It is a film about the Battle of Thermopylae where 300 Spartans fought to the death against the Persian emperor Xerxes and 600,000 of his troops. Gun rights activists tend to identify strongly with these Spartans who upon being ordered to surrender their weapons replied, "Molon labe" or "come and get them." Many of us embrace their response as our own in the face of forcible disarmament. Here is a brief treatment of the battle. Apple has a trailer but I'm unable to watch it, even after reinstalling QuickTime. There is a production blog as well. There they have the trailers in WMP, which worked for me.
The movie is based on the Frank Miller version
of the story. Miller is the comic book author perhaps best known for
the noir Sin City series, also revisited in film. The trailer for 300
looks very comic bookish with the typical focus on action, effects, and
dramatized relationships. The violence and gore will likely be comic
bookish unlike the sanitized 1962 "The 300 Spartans".
It is all fine as long as they do a decent job of displaying the
courage and valor of the Spartans who refused to surrender their arms
to Xerxes.
Apparently this is all old news by the looks of this blog.
