The democratic party is not much more than a coalition of special interest groups, so it is of little surprise that now that the dems have some power back in Washington, they are all wanting to claim responsibility for last weeks election. Not the least of which is the Brady Bunch.
At the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the leading
gun-control advocacy group, President Paul Helmke has high hopes for
the assault weapons ban — and he can list races where candidates backed
by his group defeated those supported by the National Rifle Assn.
...
"Guns are a tricky issue," Helmke said. "But the elections show there's nothing to be afraid of."
I am tempted to wish the democrats follow his lead and legislate
themselves right out of power like in '94. The problem
with that is the republicans are no better when it comes to reversing
gun control legislation. Anything they pass, we will likely be stuck
with and then we will be stuck with do nothing republicans. Lose-lose.
The statistics should speak for themselves. The previous AWB did
nothing to curb crime, and the fact is "assault weapons" are
responsible for such a minor proportion of crime. Pelosi, DiFi, and
Schumer have never been known to let facts get in the way when it comes
to guns.
