Hamilton Township council members are considering passing a new law that would create a "gang-free zone" within 1000 feet of school property. I guess those "gun-free zones" aren't working out for them.
While it is naive to think that criminal gang members will have any
more respect for a ban on gang recruitment than they do on a ban on
guns or a ban on violence, I am in part comforted by the fact that at
least this gives law enforcement a tool to specifically target and
prosecute gang members rather than victimizing and disarming law-abiding citizens. For once, an NJ anti-gang initiative targets the gang members and gang activities themselves rather than the population at large.
Expect a freedom of association lawsuit to follow from the ACLU. It would be too ironic if they did as the ACLU
has been a leading critic of the Minuteman's right to assemble and associate at
the US border with Mexico going so far as the ACLU sending agents to spying on their activities.
