The BATFE has suddenly reversed ten years of opinions on the nature and legality of the Akins Accelerator, now determining that it is a machine gun. Since they had originally said the device was not a machine gun, possibly tens of thousands of the device have been sold to law-abiding citizens.
The manufacturer asks us not to speculate about the disposition of already shipped units in the hands of customers but if the ATF is going to call them machine guns, Akins customers are now in possession of firearms not in compliance with the '34 NFA, '68 GCA, or the '86 FOPA (Hughes amendment). Non-compliance with these unconstitutional acts of congress generally results in a felony conviction. Their lawyers are still discussing this with the ATF and seeking reconsideration.
I originally saw video of the device in operation over at SayUncle. As a huge 10/22 fan, I of course have wanted one of these babies bad. That video at Uncle's place is long gone but I found another here. I'm glad I never scraped together the money to buy one. $1000 for a fancy stock is steep but not nearly as bad as having to forfeit it to the ATF.
Shhhh. Please don't anyone tell the ATF, but I am in possession of a couple of these machine guns. If I have to forfeit these to the ATF, my shoes will fall off.
