I received my copy of Dave Hardy's In Search of The Second Amendment late last week only 2 days after ordering it.  I have since watched it twice already.  The movie is for the most part a number of interviews of some of the country's top Second Amendment scholars juxtaposed to tell the story of the history of the right to bear arms, the establishment of the RKBA here in the USA and the obvious import our country's founders placed on such a right, the racist roots of gun control, and finally recent development of the 'collective rights' argument.

Hardy wrote the film to be interesting and informative even to both serious gun law amateurs like myself as well as neophytes. It might be a bit dry for someone not so interested in the subject matter.  Generally, the production value is of decent quality but there were some technically flawed portions with difficult to understand audio (which Hardy acknowledges in the credits as the portions he personally filmed).  Hardy and his experts cite a lot of original documentation and founder quotes with which I was unfamiliar.  It was a fantastic lesson starting with the history of the natural right to self defense in English common law on up to the modern day and the current debate.

It is a welcome addition to my video library and along with Innocence Betrayed will form a very effective one-two punch for RKBA proselytizing.  No anti-gunner that sits down for In Search of the Second Amendment and gives the movie the time will be left with any stronger argument than, “gun control is for the children” as any rational/historical basis for their platform flies out the window and they are left with nothing but an appeal to emotion.  That’s when you show them Innocence Betrayed.  Its real value though lies in giving gun rights activists the arsenal of facts required to win debates.  Anyone who likes to debate the Second Amendment or to just be well informed about it needs to see this.
