There is an enlightening vignette from US political history at this day in Republican Party History.

January 26, 1922
House passes bill authored by U.S. Rep. Leonidas Dyer (R-MO) making lynching a federal crime; Senate Democrats block it with filibuster

Read the whole story about the numerous attempts to make lynching a federal crime by congressional Republicans and how the racist Democrats blocked it for decades.

I'm no great proponent of the Republican Party as I feel they lost focus from being the party of small government or individual rights.  However, I do think it is important to fight the revision, re-spinning, retelling, and outright re-fabrication of history.  The DNC is the party of slavery, the party of Jim Crow, the party of the KKK, the party that filibustered the Civil Rights Act of 1964 for 83 days (the longest filibuster in US Senate history).
