Now that the Democrats have taken control of both houses of the US Congress they are showing us their true blue colors and get on to the real meat of their agenda.

We already have four severe anti-gun bills that have been introduced as the JPFO is reporting.

1) H.R. 96, "The Gun Show Loophole Closing Act of 2007" would kill all gun shows as we know them. Alan Korwin comments:

"Under the original draft, currently legal gun shows are outlawed without prior federal permission. Gun show promoters must agree to warrantless searches in order to operate, and may be arrested if private citizens talk at the show about gun sales they wish to complete away from the show. The right to assemble peaceably at a gun show or even plan for one, carries stiff prison terms unless federal licenses are issued in advance. I am not making this up.

"Massive new bureaucracy is created because all shows and their exhibitors must be registered 30 days before the show, then again 72 hours before the show, and again five days after the show. That's in addition to registering anyone who walks in, plus "any other information" the Secretary of the Treasury decides, by regulation, is necessary on vendors, attendees, and the show itself."

2) H.R.256, "The Child Gun Safety and Gun Access Prevention Act of 2007" would raise the minimum wage to own a semi-auto rifle to 21. It also calls for jail time for parents of children who commit violence with guns.

3) H.R. 297, "The NICS Improvement Act"

Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy introduced this bill. You might recall that McCarthy ran for congress in New York with the sole mission of banning guns. i

Among other things, the bill would: expand NICS to include criminal indictments (ie, punishment without trial, loss of rights without conviction), expand the Lautenburg amendment, require mental health records be reported by the states to the fed for NICS disqualification, fund the gun trace bureaucracy to the tune of about $1 billion over the next 3 years.

Larry Pratt has some commentary on this bill.

4) H.R. 428, "To require the Consumer Product Safety Commission to ban toys which in size, shape, or overall appearance resemble real handguns."

The title says it all.

They just couldn't wait. This should drive NRA membership way up. I am just surprised an AWB renewel hasn't come up yet. Remember, President Bush promised to sign it if it ever came across his desk. Hopefully enough democrats in the House will keep their heads as well as their distance from the Brady's agenda. The damage done to their party by previous anti-gun measures is still a recent memory.

"Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty—power is ever stealing from the many to the few…. The hand entrusted with power becomes … the necessary enemy of the people. Only by continual oversight can the democrat in office be prevented from hardening into a despot: only by unintermitted Agitation can a people be kept sufficiently awake to principle not to let liberty be smothered in material prosperity.." -- Wendell Phillips

[UPDATE]

I have since found a new bad bill in the Senate

5) S.77, "Anti-Gun Trafficking Penalties Enhancement Act of 2007"

This bill is sponsored by Chuck Schumer which says it all.  It would give the ATFand the AG  the right to harass FFLs and inspect them any time they desire.  Dave Hardy details the three occaisions the ATF can currently inspect an FFL.  This is more than enough already.
