DC Gun Ban Overturned - Federal Court Acknowledges 2nd Amendment as Individual Right PDF Print E-mail
Written by President
Friday, 09 March 2007

We applaud the court justices who just today confirmed that our 2nd Amendment is an individual right.

The 2nd Amendment has received much deprecation and revisionist views from left-leaning (socio-communist) elements in our government and private sector.  Among the key points, they claim the 2nd Amendment is a 'collective' right, mistakenly implying that only those in law enforcement, military service or National Guard are protected.

Among the pages of the court's finding (link here for PDF file), is this telling statement:

"To summarize, we conclude that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms. That right existed prior to the formation of the new government under the Constitution and was premised on the private use of arms for activities such as hunting and self-defense, the latter being understood as resistance to either private lawlessness or the depredations of a tyrannical government (or a threat from abroad)."

We couldn't have said it any better ourselves.  On behalf of the New Jersey Coalition for Self Defense, we applaud the court's finding, and encourage them to persist in acknowledging and confirming the fundamental elements of our Founder's intent as embodied in the libertarian principles of our Constitution.
