Why We're Different

Many people have often asked us “Why should I become a member in the NJCSD”.  Our answer is simple.  Borrowing a page from a car commercial of a few years ago, my answer is “We’re not your father’s gun rights group.”
  
Other organizations have had decades to get it right, and literally millions of dollars in membership and fundraising dollars have been given to them that have been siphoned away from New Jersey to other issues and other problems in other states.  Decades of opportunity to come up with a better strategy, or to win back “turf” have been squandered through capitulation to bad legislation, bad strategy, a lack of creativity and an overall unwillingness to fight, for fear of losing.  But our view is simple.

When you’re so far down as we are, the only place to go is up.

We believe there’s a better way.  We believe things can change here in New Jersey, if you try hard enough, and don’t take ‘no’ for an answer.  We believe that the moment you think things can’t change, you’ve already lost, because you’ve made yourself a victim.
 
We refuse to go down without a fight.  That’s why we’re asking for your help.

It’s Going To Be A Long Road.
Other organizations have battled our issue in different ways that have been entirely unsuccessful that exposes their lack of a “marketing mentality” for how to change hearts and minds.
 
For instance, one of the primary defenses for firearms in New Jersey is to preserve hunting rights.  But most New Jersey residents couldn’t care less about hunting.  So we phrase the issue differently.  In a way that people in this area can relate to.
 
The NJCSD knows our 2nd Amendment isn't about hunting rights... it's about what hunts you.  It's about defending ourselves against the animals on two legs that will resonate with voters.  It’s about framing the debate away from guns and on the real underlying reason why law abiding citizens own firearms.  Protection for ourselves, our families and our friends.
 
But it’s taken decades of time and millions of dollars to steal our rights from us, so it would be unreasonable to think that change will happen overnight.

Who We Are, What We Do.
The NJCSD is an organization founded and run by a bunch of peeved-off gun owners who have a better idea for how to fix what’s wrong.  But to understand how to fix what’s wrong, one must understand how it got this way.
 
We believe that the root cause of our problems lie with the fact that corrupt politicians have used a slanted, liberal press as their “attack dog” to manipulate public opinion.  Biased and unfair reporting goes unchecked, and uncorrected.  This isn’t a political issue, or a legality issue.  It’s a marketing and advertising challenge.
 
That’s why we’re organized as though we were a sales and marketing company.
 
It’s our job to “sell” the idea of liberty back to the citizens of New Jersey in the same way and manner as any other consumer product you see on the store shelf.  Phrased another way, New Jersey residents need "libertarian training wheels".

By using “best practice” marketing, sales and advertising techniques, we can reform and reshape public opinion on our issue using the identical channels and methods by which they were taken away.  Category advertising.  Just like the “Got Milk?” campaign did for dairy farmers, we intend to launch our own “Got Defense?” type campaign to grow awareness for our issue and shift opinion.

And when public opinion changes, so will the politics, and the politicians. 
 
Our overall strategy is to engage the citizenry of New Jersey through a systematic campaign of public information messages.  Using time tested and proven advertising techniques, we can begin to shift public opinion, and place pressure on legislators by using media, public events hosted by us, and “speaking” tours.
 
But advertising costs money.  That’s why we need your help.
 
Your membership dollars will help to fund our operations, including public speaking events and presentations, press releases, newspaper and magazine advertising, highway billboards, and even our own TV show that is currently in development!  All things designed to overcome ignorance and fear.
